Hockey players a hit with all abilities clinic

WA Hockey’s recent Hockey For All x Hookin2Hockey Clinic was a resounding success, bringing together children of all abilities for a day of excitement, learning, and inclusivity.

Held in collaboration with APM and the Perth Thundersticks - and featuring special guest, Australian Paralympian and APM Ambassador Ellie Cole - the event provided a unique opportunity for young players to engage with the sport of hockey in a supportive and fun environment.

The clinic, designed for children aged 12 and under, aimed to introduce the fundamentals of hockey while fostering a sense of teamwork and inclusivity.

The young athletes were thrilled to receive coaching from Perth Thundersticks players, who shared their expertise and passion for the game.

The session included a variety of activities focused on developing basic techniques, enhancing skills, and most importantly, having fun.

Ellie Cole, Australia’s most decorated female Paralympian, added a special touch to the event.

Her presence and words of encouragement inspired both the children and their families.

Ellie shared her thoughts on the day, saying, “This is really what fills my cup. An inclusive, fun, and safe way to all enjoy sport together.

“Nothing will humble you more than five-year-old kids running circles around you. But in saying that, nothing warmed my heart more than taking a step back to see a fully inclusive sports program.

“Thanks to Hockey WA and Hockey Australia for leading the charge on this one. It’s a day we’ll never forget.”

The clinic not only provided a platform for children to learn and play hockey but also emphasised the importance of inclusivity in sports.
